Progress at Our Place & luxe magazine

We're ALMOST able to move downstairs at our house!!! I CANNOT wait!!!

Here's where we started:

The beams were sanded down, we added insulation & drywall to the ceiling, the floors are in and we took out the tiny windows & added two large ones farther apart so there will be more wall space between them...

The old fireplace and paneling....

....are gone.  A new fireplace is going in between the windows next week:

...And our sofa arrived!! wahooooooooooooo

This is my "little louie" enjoying it:

{poor Luke has a nickname from his big brother that's stuck!! hahahaa}

Our kitchen will be going in behind the sofa so we'll just have one big open room for living & eating.  (what we do best ;)

I pulled in some more furniture in so we can enjoy the room.  It's so open & airy!! (and empty!!)
...But I'm really happy just to have somewhere to sit down there.  The white sofa is in an indoor-outdoor linen.  I tested the sample with greesy tomato sauce... I smeared it all over the sample to make sure it would wash off.  It did.  We'll see how it fares at our place.  A wet sponge is supposed to do the trick.

And... we went to the luxe magazine (DC) launch party last night...

The first issue is beautiful and I'm so excited to have a new design magazine in DC!!  The quality of the magazine /paper itself is amazing too... reminds me of those thick glossy Veranda covers.  Photographer Greg Powers is coming over to our house Monday to take some pictures of me in my new "studio" (i.e. very messy office ;)  for the "stylemaker" section in the next issue of luxe.  We met him last night & he really sweet so it shoud be fun.  (I feel pretty awkward when I'm having my photo taken alone so nice people make it much better ;)

Here's a quick pic of Dave & I heading out to the party:

{ignore the scary eyes}

Have a great day!!

Looking good!

Is that the belgian track arm sofa from Restoration Hardware in their Perennial linen-weave fabric? I looked at that one for our family room, but sadly it wasn't in the budget. It looks amazing!

It's looking great Lauren! Really love the sofa too. Smart girl with the fabric. I went stupid with our new sofa and DIDN'T get a washable fabric. I KNOW better! We've already had two wine spills and had to remake..yes remake the slipcover on part of the sofa because I shrunk it. Stupid stupid! And I KNOW better!!!!

Is the couch from Restoration Hardware? What is the couch's length?

I love your blog, and can't wait to see all the cool things you've got planned for the new house! Quick question- what will you do with the green velvet sofa? I've been dying to get one, but I don't know if velvet is the best with a toddler boy. Thoughts?

Looking good! It must be almost unbearable as you now are entering the home run of the renovation... that is for the big stuff that you need a GC for...

Have a wonderful weekend, Liz

Lauren- What great progress! And I can't wait to see the Luxe interview - you are Ms. StyleMaker herself!

We tore the exact same 45 degree pine paneling off our walls, too. Believe it or not I was trying to think of some way to paint/save the paneling but Vern Yip suggested I had to rip it down. He said it could be salvaged/painted if the boards were vertical, but that 45 degree thing was way too dated...

(and Vern was SO nice- what a talented and sincerely nice guy.)

Like everyone else, I am dying for the details on the sofa!

I love your blog! I was wondering what kind of fabric you used for the sofa? I am wanting to recover a piece of furniture and that is exactly what I have been looking for.

Thanks!

Love your style and your choice of sofas. Could you share the source. You are so talented and your decisions are so grounded to how people and families really live.

I am absolutely in love with your sofa. Where did you find the indoor/outdoor linen? It is a genius idea. I have been wanting a white coach for some time but have been putting it off due to having 2boys and a small dog. This fabric just might be the ticket!!!!

Hi everyone! The sofa is by Restoration Hardware and it's there Perennials Collection Linen in white... Have had it for a few months now and wouldn't recommend. If it's white and you have a family, it's GOT to be washable. I've learned the hard way. (AGAIN!!! I can't stop with my white sofa love!! haha)
