We've had a busy week so far over here & I just got photos back from my good friend & photographer, Helen Norman, who photographed a couple of our finished projects on Monday. I'm so excited to share the before & afters with you!! My incredibly sweet client is very laid-back and relaxed and wanted a home that felt calming, pretty, comfortable and relaxed. She & her family love spending time on the water and when we looked through inspiration photos together, she was mostly drawn to coastal-feeling homes. Her kids are older now and she was ready to completely redo her home and get it exactly as she'd always wanted it to feel. Here's how the family room looked before:
And here it is now:
I really love my client's style... she loves natural materials as much as I do, so I used lots of them which makes it feel really textural and natural- seagrass, linen, burlap, jute rope, driftwood and raw woods mixed with metals... My client really trusted me in the space and I was so excited when she decided to take a risk on the rope chairs!! They're one of my favorite things in the room and they are sooo comfy & fun!! The curtains also really change the feeling of the room- they're a soft watery ikat comprised of blues & greens & chartreuse. We had them hung above the arched windows which simplifies all of room's the lines a bit and makes it feel more classic and architecturally-pleasing.
The sea life prints are a mix of vintage and new prints that I've been collecting for a while. Because my client's so trusting, she was comfortable with me finding all of the pieces over time and hanging them for her, sight unseen. (This is always so much fun for me because I feel like I can stretch my "wings" a little and I can do things that might seem a little disjointed on paper but that look great in real life, which is more how I design my own home. You'll notice that there are lots of different frames hanging up there and that they're hung pretty randomly, but I'm happy to report that she loved it. :)
And, my client is super-talented... unbeknownst to me until I saw this gorgeous painting she did for the family room:
{Pillow Fabrics: Pear Linen, "Tree of Life" by Jasper, and Squircles" by Lauren Liess Textiles}
She said she was "just fooling around" but if I could fool around like that, I'd call myself an artist!!! I asked her if she'd be open to painting more for future projects and she said she would be, so I'm thrilled about that. She used so many colors & there's so much depth to it... I love how it turned out.
And, finally, one last pic of the whole room:
I hope you enjoyed this peek into my client's home... I'll be back later this week with photos of her dining room and foyer!! Have a great day! :)

The after photo is jaw dropping amazing! I noticed the ceiling fan is gone too. And I adore original art :)

Just lovely and it does all of things your client wanted as it is approachable and looks so comfy! I love all of the texture and the pops of be achy color, perfect!
Lauren, it would be great to see a close-up of the mantel -- what's that frame above the fireplace made of? This is the most beautiful transformation of all the rooms you've shown on your blog. The natural elements work so well. Best wishes!
What a beautiful room! I'm in awe. Love the furniture placement, the window treatments and the art!!
In awe.

Beautiful! Love the rope chairs - they definitely make the room!

oh LOVE it! It's casual but still beautiful and pretty because of the symmetry - great work!
Sooooo beautiful in a soothing and grown up way. And so "not trendy" in a wonderful way but really "pure". Love it!
Have a great day!
Just gorgeous. So serene and peaceful. I really love the close up photo - it allows us to see how much color and depth the room actually has. Beautiful, as always!

I literally gasped when I scrolled down to the after photo. So beautiful!!!! I love the textures and colors. Those chairs are so cool! You and your client are both so talented.
Amazing, as always!
Amazing!!! Wow.
Such an amazing before and after! Beautiful!
what an awesome living room! that painting is so great and adds so much to the space. And those chairs... I would LOVE those in our living space.
Lauren - this is absolutely stunning! Amazing job!
As usual, you're amazing! obsessing over the rope chairs....and her art, what a fantastic surprise! Beautifully, beautifully done.
I love using two sofas in a room. The room is gorgeous. The randomly hung artwork gives the room a relaxed feel. Each side table has its own personality. Love. Great job.
Those two woven chairs are absolutely genius! There is oodles of seating in that room but it feels light and airy. I don't think any other chair could have pulled off the same effect. Your work just gets better and better and better!
Wow, you are so talented! Amazing job.
This is just gorgeous. Really love the woven chairs and the gallery wall!
Do you mind telling me what sofas these are?
This is absolutely stunning -- doesnt even look like the same house let alone the same space. Love it all!! Amazing as usual. Where are the sofas from?
I just adore your style. So fab, as always!
This is a gorgeous, lovely room! I am dying over those beautiful curtains! Can you share the fabric source? Is it one of your textiles?
Lauren, the room is stunning. I adore the rope chairs and your collected art and the way you hung the drapes and all your choices. Gorgeous. Your client's painting really is the icing on the cake. Wow!
You know, I love those thin iron curtain rods. I need to find out where you source those. Honest to God, I can't find a thin rod here anywhere. Maybe I need to go through an interior designer.
By the way, I read the Textiles post with great interest and think your designs are simply gorgeous. I don't know what the best route is for you - going into separate dealers seems like a lot of work - but I hope you find the route that is easiest and profitable haha!! Your textile work is gorgeous and I hope it gets the attention and widespread market it deserves. Do you have any Canadian dealers?!
Love ya cousin and don't worry about replying to any of these questions - mostly all rhetorical. I can email you later if I need help with the curtain rods.
Hugs, Terri xo
Holy Moly what a difference! Simply gorgeous Lauren!
What a huge transformation. You've worked your magic. It looks amazing, Lauren! I love the gallery wall you put together, and those cane chairs! Are they cane wrapped? Gorgeous!
This is just stunning Lauren, really beautiful!
Wow! It looks amazing. I wouldn't have ever realized it was the same room! Those chairs are really great!
I think this is my favorite re-design of yours ever! So stunning--it belongs in Architectural Digest.
Gorgeous! What an amazing transformation.
Love, love, LOVE this room! So beautiful and serene and textural. And how amazing is that painting!? Fantastic job, I wish my home looked half this beautiful!
Beautiful and natural!! I have been searching for a coffee table similar and found the trellis table at Ballard Designs but this one in your client's home appeals to me more. Can it be obtained from a retailer? Thanks so much.
Correction to my previous comment. Trellis table at Wisteria and the Sutton table at Ballard are similar to your client's coffee table.
Wow! What a transformation. It's beautiful. Hard to believe it's the same room actually.
Love your work! Brilliant, who doesn't dream of a room like this
I look forward to each and every one of your client before and afters. They are all simply amazing! This room is stunning. I love the neutral tones so much - simply stunning!
When I saw the before and then scrolled to see the after, I actually yelled out "no way"...

Oh the textures! I just want to jump right in and touch everything. Amazing transformation Lauren!

Had to come back and look at this in full size... WOW! I love all the textures and the rope chairs add that perfect unexpected touch.
That painting... seriously? That was your client just playing around? Will she make me one?!?
This space is absolutely amazing. I love everything about it. So natural and serene. Truly inspiring.
Wow! What a transformation. I love this room. The chairs, with their airy, see-through weave, are particularly awesome! Your client's painting is very nice and fits perfectly in the room. I love the green glass jug lamp also. Really nice job!
Claudia
Truly one of the best before and afters I've seen in a long time. Love the layout in this space. Completely opened it up! Great job. M.
This might be one of my favorite spaces you have shared. There isn't one thing that isn't just perfect! And her painting....I was thinking it could be from Natural Curiosities.....she needs to set up an Etsy shop!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. This is a room I'd love to live in!
Beeautiful!!! Congratulations!
Lovely! I really love the sea life prints, and the rope chairs are amazing.
best ever! good job!

Perfection!!!!!!!!! Love every element but especially the rope chairs, art and way you handled the draperies. So gorgeous that I feel like using that color scheme for the beach house we are thinking about buying. LOVE IT AND YOU!!!

Wow ! I had to look, and look again, and go back and forth, and then look again ! What a dramatic, stunning, amazing transformation ! I LOVE every single thing about the "AFTER", and believe me, I spent some time scrutinizing each detail in the after pics ! What a lovely room - I can't get over how beautiful it looks!
absolutely LOVE the room Lauren....great job....i love the rope chairs too and your fabrics...
Great room, Lauren!
I don't post often but this room stopped me in my tracks. It's been so fun watching you evolve as a designer and I love that we get to watch your journey. This for me is one of your BEST projects. This room stopped me in my tracks. I MUST know who the chairs are from and tell your client I will buy her painting. The painting and the chairs were the FIRST two things i noticed in the room. I'm a neutral person so this room speaks to me. Love it. Already pinned all the pics. LOL.
What a transformation! Just gorgeous! And your client is talented in my book too *winks* Vanna
Beautiful! Love all those natural materials too! Just wondering what you (as a mom of crawling, messy babies with bare knees etc!) think about seagrass and/or other natural rugs...I love the look but am not sure about the practicality there. Sorry if you've already addressed this elsewhere and I've missed it!
Even though I tend to be a bit more traditional (probably due in large part to my age!) and have heretofore not considered myself a huge fan of the coastal inspired design movement, I fell in love instantly with this room. What a fabulous makover. It has depth and the kind of instinctive warmth that make it so inviting. Kudos to you for a fabulous job!
Simply stunning. Absolutely adore everything about the room!
Everything about it is perfect! Well done, again!!!
the list of things I love in this room is too long for the comment section, but my top favorites those large velvet? pillows on the sofa...such a perfect size, the black accents that pair so nicely with all the neutral tones, and your clients artwork...it's so large, but doesn't take over the room because the colors are so muted. lovely.
This is nothing short of spectacular!
Excellent! She was completely right to trust you!!
I am so lucky to have a client like that now, also!
30 something years I have been working for her!
Starting in Pasadena!
She inherited her parent's condominium up here in Santa Barbara, and I will do a before and after!
You should be very proud of yourself!!
Penelope
ps She IS an artist!!
I forgot to add: the rope chairs are genius! If you had tried solid chairs there; no no no.
They provide great seating, they are comfortable and you can see through them!!
Congratulations, again!!
Every single thing is beautiful!! Great job Lauren!!
I love the curtains. They are perfect! How do you handle the corner with the curtain rods?
Simply Stunning Lauren!! x Maria
love every inch. congrats! linking to this post today!!!

Lauren . I love it its beautiful !!! so peaceful and serene. I love the woven chairs! WOuld you mind sharing the source ??
P.S The painting is amazing !!!
How awesome is that!?!? You're so talented!
Would definitely like to know where you got the corner curtain rods. I have 2 bay windows and a set of corner windows that I have no idea how to "dress". I've looked for rods to fit them but can't find any that is substantial. Is there a specific place to get them or are they called something specific? I wish I had 1/2 the talent and artistic ability that you have! Wow!

So beautiful and calming!
You are such a fantastic designer Lauren, ths room is my favorite so far!
So beautiful! I came across your blog via Centsational Girl. You have such a lovely sense of style! I was wondering, what is the fabric you used for the drapes? Something like this with a subtle pattern would look great in my mom's house. Anyway... Thanks for sharing your work!
Gorgeous. I love those woven chairs and how you can see through them. So light and airy yet they sort of beckon you through to the rest of the room.

I would love to know the source for the rope chairs. Been searching for something open like that - was just about to order a large bench but would prefer these. Paged through google to no avail -
Would also love to know the source of those rope chairs. Have an awkward family room layout, but those would be perfect for the space-very airy. Can't do more heavy chairs in the space.
Are these the Cosmopolitan Chairs from Noir Furniture? I didn't know if your's were wood or metal?
Thanks so much for the sweet comments!! The chairs are by Noir.
xoxo,
lauren
