To buy a fat pig...

Yes!  I'm going to Market, to Market!!  It's my first time so I'm a total newb.

For anyone who doesn't know about High Point Market, you can check out details here.  Since I've never been myself I really can't quite conceptualize it yet but it sounds like a city of trade-only design showrooms.  Really, a city...  No actually, the mecca.   14 million square feet of showrooms I think??  So it's going to be humanly impossible to see it all but I'm going to try to hit as much of it as I can.  My goal is to find some beautiful new (to me) companies to work with & I can't wait to see it!!  It's seriously intimidating to be honest, but right now I'm waaaay more excited than nervous.

Anyone else going?  I think a few (hopefully a bunch!) of bloggers are planning on meeting up for drinks one night so let me know. If you are going ,check out this post by Elizabeth Morten guest blogging over @ Velvet & Linen.  Does anyone have any recommendations for showrooms to visit?  Tips?  Events to attend?  Would love some advice!!

xoxo, Lauren

Well, Lauren, there is no turning back now! It will change your life this show. I went to my first in 1980 and have not gotten over it since. Wear comfortable shoes, babe.

This is exciting. I live near High Point and work twice a year in one of the showrooms - Encore. Stop by if you get a chance.

Agreed, comfortable shoes are needed. I always get so turned around and mixed up when I go, even after over a decade - LOL! I no longer go since I'm out of residential. Have fun!!!

Glad to here it, I've been there 5 times now and I do have a few suggestions. Here goes:
Obviously, wear comfortable shoes.
The best bathroom is on the 11th floor of the main building in the "club". It's also the best place to take a break or get any decent phone reception.
Food can be challenging. The restaurants in the design buildings tend to be pricy ($18 sandwich anyone?) This year I'm bringing my own and eating on one of the the benches outside, which is also a great place to people watch if you need a break.
Coffee - There is free coffee on the 6th floor of the main building in the "pavillion". Shhhh - our little secret!
Love your blog Lauren!! I've only been at it for a short time but would love you to visit me at my blog http://braxtonandyancey.blogspot.com/.
Peace,
Yancey

Well, it depends on the decor style. Paul Robert is leaning more transitional versus their rustic feel of the past. Habersham is always amazing which is mostly casegoods. They partnered with an upholstery line out of Arizona a couple of years ago, but really pricey. Theodore Alexander has the best party. Paul Maitland-Smith is the designer for Theodore Alexander. Fine Art Lamps always has a wonderful lunch. Christopher Guy is uber-comtemporary, but is just fun to look at. Ferguson-Copeland is expensive, but is great for inspiration. The Larry Laslo collection is beautiful. Wesley Allen is a great source for iron beds. They don't show well in the showroom, but the catalog gives you a better idea. You will really want to plan out your trip or you will be running from building to building. A lot of the showrooms are by appointment; however, with your new showroom they will be much more lax about it. I could tell you more, but I'm already writing a post in your comments ;)

Can you tell I've been a time or two? The first time I was pregnant. I held in there with heels and all every day. It can be very, very overwhelming. Enjoy yourself and ask questions. You won't make it all in one trip. It's really impossible.

I agree with all of the above! Wear comfortable shoes. Be sure to go to Interhall in the IHFC and the Suites in Market Square. This is where all of the new and upcoming manufacturers show. Hickory Chair is fabulous and they have just moved into a new showroom. Also, J Douglas Rep Group, Global Views, Currey and Co, Bobo Intriguing Objects (To die for!), Legacy Bed Linens....I could go on and on!

If you are looking for good places to eat try- Hamptons at the Adams Inn, Emerywood Fine Foods, Southern Roots(in Jamestown).

Unfortunately there aren't as many nightly musical acts as usual but there are always market parties and cocktails throughout all of the buildings :)

Enjoy yourself and our town!! Feel free to stop by if you are in Historic Market Square.

Lauren - Sounds like a dreamy trip! Please tell us what you find!

I used to have a booth at a big wholesale gift show in Philadelphia, and some buyers had the big rolling suitcases to save their backs. The bigger the suitcase, the better!
