Simple Pleasures: Fire Pits & S'Mores

It's Fall & we finally have a backyard to hang out in!! A couple of nights ago we decided to break out the firepit (given to us by our friends, Amy & Greg) and do S'Mores.

It was so beautiful to just sit out in the brisk night with sweats on & to warm our bare feet near the fire...

It was just Dave & Christian (& of course Ashby!) and me, but we had enough s'mores for 6+ people.

And of course Christian helped find the perfect sticks...

...To get those marshmallows cooked to perfection. (image below from flicker) I have to admit, I was definitely out of practice & lit my first one on fire-- oops! I like them golden brown slow-cooked....Christian had the best time with Daddy:

S'Mores are so good I can't even handle it!!! (image from here) This is only the second time Dave's EVER had them!!!
After burning the first one to smitherines, I learned to concentrate a bit more...
While I'm so happy with my perfect little fire pit, I wouldn't mind one of these built-in ones below... (image from strawbridgefarm.com) and am now working up plans & a yard location in my mind for the future. (don't worry, WAY future!)

Love this one too from Country Living. The big boulders for sitting are so fun:

How fun does this look?!! )(below CL)

Mmmm mmm... some pretty roasting marshmallows... (CL)
And of course House Beautiful does a fire pit in style, below. I'd love to have this many adirondacks for a big party:

If you don't have a fire pit (or the time to make one) I found a few places with pretty ones. The artisan John Tunger makes beautiful ones:

Front Gate of course has some nice ones but they're on the pricier side and if I were going to SPEND on a fire pit (some are in the thousands... granite, marble, etc.) I'd rather have one built...

I think this one is beautiful from Smith + Hawken:

Target carries a large variety. Check out this pagoda fire pit:

This one is beautiful:
Target also carries Smith + Hawken. Love the copper bowls:This one is around $100:
I found this one on Washington Spaces but Target carries it:
Here's a beauty from Design Within Reach for $350: (image from kelly shiroevents.com) So if you need something to do on a cool Fall night....
... There's always this:

And don't forget the key ingredients!!!

Hope you get to enjoy this simple pleasure!!!

xoxo,

lauren

also- thanks so much for all the kind words/ encouragement about my house!! (previous post) You don't know how much it means to me!!!

I've always wanted one of these so bad- the though of sitting in sweats on a brisk fall night around the fire is just perfect. I would totally buy one but my neighbors might call the fire department on me if they saw me on the sidewalk with one of these things.

PS- still cant get over your house, it's so amazing I have no words for it :)

S'mores are delicious, I had never had or heard of them until I when to a wedding in Big Sur last year. After the reception and the sun went down, there were candles hanging in the trees, a huge bonfire and s'mores - I was hooked!

What a treat! I love s'mores! It's definitely my favorite part about a camp fire. I'm very jealous of your fire pit!

Well now, I hadn't thought of having a fire pit in our garden! This is our first time having a garden of our own and we have been sitting out in what little summer we have had here in Oxford, but a fire pit might be just the very thing we need...

We have a fire pit that we haven't used in a few years—sort of like that iron pagoda style. Your post makes we want to go drag it out from behind the bushes. In a month. Too hot right now!
