Into Golds...

For a while now I've been noticing that gold tones have really been catching my eye.  I've always been into brass & the warmth that gold tones can bring to a home but I'm wanting it more & more in my own home in things likes fabrics & art...

{Loved the way Christian's hair matched some of the leaves this Fall}

I haven't been able to get this orangey-mustard beauty out of my mind since I saw it on my friend Seleta's blog, years ago for her Thanksgiving tablesettings:

I came across this gorgeous tree this Fall & it reminds me of the chandy:

I love the gold tones mixed with earthy & moody ones.

I first became conscious of how much I was loving golds when I did the boys' room at my dad's lake cottage this summer:

There's something about those mustard throws that I couldn't stop thinking about.  (Yes, I know, other people have more important things to think about...  but I occupy my brain with ponderings of color ;)  Just thinking about this room since we left it makes me happy & in the strangest way, redoing this bedroom made us start thinking of moving this past July.  It was just a tiny itch, but with us, an itch can lead to a serious rash & we were off to a new place!

I came across this beautiful ancient Egyptian Wall painting on wreckorated.blogspot.com and am crazy about it:

Around the same time I did the boys' bedroom this summer, I finished "buttercup" and naturally, it was yellows & earth tones:

I'm really not one for "trends" & knowing what's "of the moment" but I do think I have my own little love affairs with colors & objects & themes in design.  I start to notice them in life & in photos & just ccan't seem to get enough of them. Whether they're current or not, I never really care or am aware, but they're right on for me.

I've been telling everyone here that gold is coming back BIG, and they are totally freaked out about it (images of cheap, really shiny brass light fixtures in Grandma's house go through their mind). I didn't like it either, except for my paintings, which always need warm golds against them. Now I'm getting back into it, but I let people know it's much more muted and if done with a little restraint, it's what's needed many times!

I'm having my own gold moments. I'm loving brass and gold accents against white walls.

And I just posted about oversize chandeliers - wish I had seen the first image before I wrote the post!

I am such a visual person and these images are wonderful! I agree, the golden toens have been rather inspiring for me this season as well!

Sea glass green has been attracting me recently. I need a light uplifting paint color for our basement (husband's office space) but I'm afraid that green down there wil just make it seem like a hospital. Gold isn't right for it either. Still thinking.

For some reason I am in love with that color also. I just remodeled and recovered a couple of chairs using Robert Allen's mustardy gold velvet on the back and a gold and grey Ikat on the front....love it! And agree, that chandy is to die for as my mother used to say. Best gold of all though is your little boy's hair!

I didn't notice until recently how much gold I have in my house. Everything was being spray painted white and I was sticking with gold and brass because my rooms felt warmer. I've always loved it - just didn't know it was trending!

I've always loved old worn brass. There isn't anything prettier nor richer than an antique English scrubbed pine piece of furniture with heavy brass candle sticks. I never realized it went out until a couple of years ago. I thought that was the oddest thing. It's nice to hear others are becoming aware of the nice high quality brass, not the cheap brass that isn't even in the same league.

Lauren -

Ever since you showed me that gold-leaf figurine head lamp you sourced for our living room overhaul you did in February, I've been in love with gold metallics! Actually, we used a LOT of golds and mustards in that room and I just love them. Energizing, but relaxing. Downright soothing and warm in the evenings. LOVE.

Such ancient Egyptian painting is wonderful. It depicts probably the harvest time.

Just found this one...wonderful! I, too, am so attracted to the "burnished brass, gold, copper.." Just painted my window frames (and doors) "vintage metallic copper." The patina is perfect, for me!! Great job! franki
