Umm yeah...

...That's cereal with water.

When we opened the fridge for breakfast this morning, I realized we were out of milk.
It happens.
But it happened after we'd poured the puffins in the bowl.
And his heart was set on that bowl of puffins.
I told him it wouldn't be good, but he had to try the water in the cereal.

You only try this once.
I remember when I did.

It's really not the end of the world, but it's really not good.

... But thanks to Gramma for showing up an hour or so later & fixing things:

love you mom.

xoxo, Lauren

I love how your mom is still wearing her gloves. You must have said ok Mom pour milk, then get comfortable. :)

I remember thinking that orange juice would be a good substitute for milk (better than water, at least). Yeah--I only tried that once :) Not good. Thanks for the cute post!

I remember doing this as a kid! I didn't like it either. I was not as fortunate however, as my Grandmother was hours away.

This was too funny, and very familiar!; I have been out of milk for 3 days now....just having some 'eh' days where I don't want to go to the supermarket...lol

I wished my mom or grandma would rescue me with milk and bread in my time of lazyness...or pure procrastination. hehe
Luv your blog Lauren!

How lovely,

Is there anything in this world that a loving grandmother can't fix? This reminds me a lot of my mom and my little guy -- they have an incredible bond and he often turns to her to save the day ;)
Oh, milkless Mondays -- that's what I call a Monday morning when I've forgotten to restock on dairy.
Needless to say, it's never a great way to start the week!
Cheers, Alcira

I think I remember hearing that cereal was first eaten with water on a regular basis (I think it had to do with the first cereals being made from hard oats).

Glad they all realized that milk was better!

I remember doing this, too! We all have to discover it for ourselves, right? Tell Christian that Miss Joanna LOVES her Puffin cereal, too. :)

What you have gotta try is chocolate milk with cereal. It is awesome for days when you feel grumpy. Trust.

I ran out of milk once..with a toddler in the house..nuff said. I buy 3 gallons of milk at time and freeze some in the garage's fridge. When we are about to run out on the milk gallon inside the kitchen fridge. I take out a frozen gallon and let it thaw overnight...it's ready to go come morning and we have never been out of milk since!

This is such a cute post (not to mention your adorable son)! Woke up this morning with a choice of almond or soy milk for my coffee - both pretty yucky. I am resolving to pick up a box of Parmalat for the pantry so it doesn't happen again! Aren't Grandmas fantastic?

HA!! Henry asked for water in his cereal just tonight! I had to tell him that just wouldn't taste very good ...

Aaaah yes I remember it well. WE would always be out of milk, bread and cereal. Many runs to the store, but I did not have snow to contend with. Yay Grandma!!! Kathysue

Okay, I hope EVERYONE sees this comment. I'm a mom of three and found out years ago, thankfully, to always keep a carton of Parmalat milk in my cupboard and one in the refrig. Its REAL milk, in a box, and when I've run out for cereal, or even a recipe, it works perfectly! My kids don't even know...and if you keep it in the refrigerator, it will be cold and ready. Its small and doesn't take up space like a real gallon.
