Carved in stone

{The mantle... playing around with some arrangements.  Don't worry, I'll repot the plants out of plastic}

I'm in the middle of styling my house for a photo shoot taking place tomorrow.  I'm having it done by photographer Helen Norman so my portfolio will look a little better to prospective clients.  There's just something about professional photography that makes a room look so much better than any picture you can take yourself.  (well. myself anyway.)

What's SCARY about this is we're doing one shoot on one day in time and as you can imagine, my house doesn't looks the same for very long.  So how do I decide how I want it??!!  It will be forever immortalized on my website (ok, or for as long as I have a website) and I want it to look its best.  Sort of like a bride on her wedding day.  I want it to be the epitome of my style.  (which is ever-changing, hence, the difficulty here.)  How do I decide??!!!

It's go-time so I have to run but I'll share pics when I can!!!

xoxo, Lauren

ps- Don't worry, I'll wipe the baby's fingerprints off the mirror!!

Lauren, only you see the fingerprints ;) I look at it this way....I had a mowhawk in highschool. Yes. I. Did. It is forever immortalized in my graduation photo. But that is how I looked, I thought I was beautiful and cool and brave....and you know what? I was. I love that photo, it was a time, perfectly captured, in my life when I was exactly who I was....

relax, your styling will be beautiful and it will be who you are right now, which is imperfectly perfect

I thought I read a blog about how you already had it professionally photographed?

Good luck. I'd have stage fright and indecisive anxiety if there is such a thing. I think sometimes ignorance is bliss when it comes to decorating -- people who can't visualize what a space can be may never agonize the way those of us who do it for a living do. But, I have complete faith that it will be stunning, as always! Remember to have fun and be proud :) !

You should style your mantle several different ways and have them photograph it as changing since that's your style...ever changing. I can't wait to see!

I was just froufing my house today too...not for a photoshoot, though! What fun! I know about the carved in stone thing though...scary, but whatever you do, it will be fabulous!

Good luck,

You had me so worried...I thought you were going to leave those plants in the plastic! The horror ;)!

I would do exactly what the other commenter said. Have them take photos and let you rearrange for a different look. I can tell you love to change it up or tweak it frequently and that would better represent your style.

Love the fern on the coffee table. Your husband did a wonderful job on those walls also, it looks like the walls are antique wallpaper.

Its going to look great no matter what you decide to go with! Its all you!

I'm in the process of looking for a photographer to shoot my house as well. Helen looks great. But your own photographs are amazing...like a professional.

Your house will look beautiful! Plus, I'm sure these aren't the last professional pictures that will be taken of your gorgeous home!
I know you're like me and always changing your home. These images will just capture your design style in a moment in time! I think that's important to document, but it doesn't mean that your design style is set in stone :)

are you going to repot in the white ceramic piece you have in the center of the mantle? I have several of those old pots but can not keep a plant alive due to no drainage. I can not wait to see what you do with it. FYI - I am the same way with my house. I live in it and it is a mess at times but if anyone is coming over every detail has to be correct down to the carpet fringe. Nobody is as hard on you as you are on yourself but that is what makes you successful instead of ordinary.
