My Future Vanity

I'm skipping the Pure Organization Project this week as baby Justin's in a very "hold me and don't put me down or I'll scream" stage and we worked more on his nursery. :)

As I've mentioned before, the bathrooms in our 70s house are very green and very 70s.  We've got plans to update eventually.  (Waiting on time & budget- what else? ;)  My "eventual" plans for the master bath have always included turning an old dresser into a vanity.  The dresser below (from one of my favorite homes eva!! - House Beautiful) is what I've had in mind.  I LOVE it!!!

And then I came across this (below) at On a Whim Antiques from Edie Trageser's booth:

It's an old vintage maple dresser and when I spied it a couple of weeks ago, I thought it could be perfect.  I just had to check the measurements & when they were right on, we bought it.   I plan on keeping all 3 drawers functional, just cutting out sections of the inside of the drawers for plumbing fixtures.

It's got dovetail drawers and beautiful wooden nails.  I can't wait for it to make its way into our bathroom, but for now I'm enjoying having a free surface to for displaying pretty things in our bedroom:

It's time to bring in some branches from outside!!  (The pussywillow branches I have here aren't from my yard though ;)  I'm definitely planting some "branchy" bushes asap though.

Made any good finds lately?
Happy ides of March!! ;)
xoxo,
lauren

No time at the moment to find things but have bookmarked next Saturday as a definite date for a clearing sale! Not too far a drive and they sound as though they may have some lovely bits! Fingers crossed and if I get anything I will post about it. Like you dresser.

Lauren-- the dresser is beautiful! The tone of the wood is just exactly right.

Do you have a Moby wrap? If not, you should find one for Justin asap. It's a little tricky to master, but you will be able to wear him, have both hands free, and it really soothes colicky babies. Lifesaver!!!!

It has lovely simple lines. Looks great in your bedroom too. I just found a piece for my living room two weeks ago after years of not findong the perfect piece. I blogged about it a few posts ago.

I don't know how you have time to do everything you do with 2 little ones!

Love this. We usually see more Victorian-type or carved and curvy European dressers as vanities, but your clean, fresh take on things carries into every room beautifully. Can't wait to see the finished product.

What a great find, and I love what you are going to use it for even better! It will make your bathroom look like a part of the bedroom. So welcoming and warm!

Love it! We did the same thing in our old house's master bath. It was always my favorite and I hated moving away because of it. We did the top drawer as one of those hinged types you find for the kitchen, the second had compartments on the left and right to allow for the plumbing, and the bottom was a full drawer. I know you didn't ask, but I felt compelled to share. :) Can't wait to see yours!

Lauren I have an old piece with a sink in it for my front guest bath, It is a late 1890's piece and I love it. It is a piece ,if we move it getting ripped off the wall and replaced with something else. I am sure you will love yours when it is done.It is fun to find the marble top and the sink and the faucets. Looking forward to seeing what you do. Right now just enjoy those babies. Happy Tuesday,Kathysue

What an interesting post. I had no idea weeping willows served this purpose. We just had to cut down a number of large evergreens that provided privacy from a neighbor (love the neighbors but they don't need to see me trotting around the pool all summer). I'll have to look into these. Reminds me of my love of Banyan trees from early years playing in them in FLA.
