A client of mine had a huge stash of artwork that her brother had given her years ago... always planning on doing something with some of it but never getting around to it. He made some of the pieces from tissue paper & paint so they're raised & really unique:
Each piece symbolizes something special to them. She has a huge wall going up her stairway so I thought it would be the perfect space to display almost the whole collection. I had them mounted on a dark green velvet (which was one of the few colors that worked with all of the pieces) and framed in shadow box frame sans-glass. We used a laser level, a tape measure, and of course my accommodating contactor & his ladder to hang the gallery wall and it came out perfectly. (love it when that happens!)
We switched out her builder's grade brass fixture for this Arteriors Home antique brass pendant which works with the contemporary artwork but also pays homage to the rest of the house which is actually fairly traditional:
Gallery walls can be perfect for thar forgotton hallway or stairway & often we have the artwork or photos just waiting around our house to be framed. (And prints are so cheap & easy to come by!) They have a huge impact on a space & can be really sentimental. My client loves seeing her brother's artwork first thing when she comes home every day. Do you have any artwork just waiting around to be hung??

This looks just great and a job for someone who doesn't mind getting up on a ladder! The light fixture looks just right with the artwork...

Love this...very personable and so beautiful!
Do I ever have artwork waiting to be hung up! Some going back almost 11 years purchased on our honeymoon in Spain, ebay finds, NYC street artists, family photos, kids' art...so why am I so fearful of hammering in that first nail?
Looks great!! I usually take the more organic and non-measure approach :) I love this kind of order.
Best,
Michelle
Beautiful and a very good idea!!
Yes I have a lot of black/white pictures and some etchings waiting to be framed! And I would love to hang them on the stairway but I have not that space to do as you showed here, I am afraid!!!

I LOVE this! What a way to add some color to a space!!
Beautiful! I love all that color against the neutral wall, and those gorgeous frames are a nice change from the typical black frame. Another great post!
Gorgeous result! I love the light fixture you choose -- it's stylish, yet does not interfere with the artwork at all.
Such a unique and colorful wall- I love that it has meaning behind it, makes it that much more special!
Perhaps I'll do this right after my living room is painted this week. It's a great idea - though we have a skylight leaving us with oddly placed sconces on two walls . . . That third wall though is ripe for the picking and looks odd with only two or three pictures.
You are so talented. You have a special touch when it comes to decorating. I love reading your blog and I always find insperation. Wish you lived closer so you could come to my home and help me!
Just posted some "before and after" of my living room here in MA. I did have a designer but I am now trying to finish it myself. Still needs some more....
Tell me what you think~ Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks, Jamilyn
Great solution! I have several, but want to make sure it doesn't look like a hodge podge... ;-)
Beautiful job Lauren! And so colourful!! It's absolutely perfect!

Wow Lauren, I can only imagine what it took to hang these... They look stunning. The colors are vibrant. I love when client's have special artwork you can add to their home to make it theirs. This is just beautiful!
Fantastic job, Lauren.
