My Chinoiserie Mirror & Entry

I found this crazy vintage chipped Chinoiserie Mirror at Lucketts yesterday & just went for it. My entryway is dull and uninviting to use the nicest of terms. It's really bad. (below) yummy linoleum (before.)

And you can see it from the Living room and the main wall is actually a focal point of sorts when in the living room (which is where the pic above is taken from. ) I'm putting it high on the main wall so it reflects all of the windows in the living room, not a person's face, when you're in the entry (I'm doing a smaller one across from the door for that.) Here's the mirror below (not hung yet- sorry!) in the repainted entry (white white) which now has wall-to-wall seagrass.

Red is NOWHERE in my house. I'm not usually a red fan but something about this mirror just made me grab it. I just love its patina & chips & cracks. It matches nothing I have but the love was there so I'm sure it'll work.

This 4 foot tall caged lantern (below from Bellacor.com for around $200- what a deal!!) arrived yesterday and I can't wait to install it to replace the sickly-light-producing-globe one that's there now!!!

And one last pic of the chips & cracks!! (I know I go overboard taking pics of the same thing sometimes but just can't help myself)

Have a great weekend everyone. We're hoping our floors have arrived on time so we'll be installing those along with all of the installs for a client's SURPRISE master bedroom. (She is surprising her fiance and they will be gone for the weekend & will come home to a completely new room!!! She's seen nothing in person - only the design plan- and I'm so excited to make a nice romantic space for the newlyweds!! I was thinking how cute it would be to have champagne & rosepetals or something waiting for them but then I also realized how weird that might be.. hahaha maybe just some pretty flowers!) wish me luck!!
xoxo,
lauren

Love the mirror. It might have come home with me too and I DO have red to go with it!
Yes to the flowers (with a congrats note from you), no to the champagne and rose petals... too personal. Great idea though... surprise bedroom makeover.
Have a great weekend! Can't wait to see what's new next week!

love the mirror, I think the red adds a nice touch to your house- worst case you can always re-paint it later. But, I think the aging on it is a nice touch. Post pics when you get it hung, I'd love to see it in the new space.

Good luck with the room re-do, thats so cute its a surprise too!

Have a good weekend!!

Going to look great, especially with the seagrass! Wondering if you were happy with your seagrass installation? Would love to know if you would recommend the installer and who they were as I am looking for one and also live in the N VA area.
Thanks!

Lauren - you have crazy amazing taste. That mirror is KILLER, I mean KILLER nice. I would have bought it, red or not, and I don't like red particularly, but sometimes you just have to take an object for what it is, and this is perfect, probably because it is red. It makes it special and exotic sorta, but also has that found quality that your place is taking. And that lantern - are you kidding - they are going to look amazing together. You are talent incarnate Lauren.

Once Eddie becomes the next Martha, I hope he helps you get discovered. haha. I can see you with your own show already...

Love it and can't wait to see it all together. Your fresh style nevert ceases to amaze.

What a great find! I've been thinking about red too as I *still* haven't hung our vintage Chairman Mao posters and was pondering red bedside lamps to go with them, in the even that I ever *do* get around to hanging them.

Fantastic mirror, Lauren. It is going to be beautiful paired with that lantern (yes, I agree, a great deal).
We put wall to wall seagrass in our Channel Islands home. We love it. It looks wonderful in your home. So much better than the linoleum.
You are giving your home a whole new fresh design.

I need that chandelier!! Is it seriously $200?!?? It's perfect for our entry!!

I think the fact that the mirror is the only red item in your house will make it extra-special. It'll really stand out and make a statement :-)

How fun to design a surprise master bedroom makeover!! I hope you'll post pictures of it after the big reveal :-)

Gorgeous mirror! What a great find. Here's a little tip: Crayola brand markers - yes the ones kids use, but not the washable ones - are great for touching up cracks or chips in just about any type of furniture as long as it is not in a heavy wear area. You can blend the colors in layers over each other until you get the right shade. Try them on a spot on the back of the piece first to make sure you are using the right combination of colors.

I would love to see some turk in the entry hall, a pop of blue turk, a wall, an umbrella stand or a small table....ina bright teal blue.

The mirror and the light are going to look great. As for being into green...I have always loved it. I don't think it has ever been out of style, works well with any other hue...Yes, you can't go wrong with green ...IMHO.

Absolutely to die for Lauren! Maybe it doesn't need to be hung? The space looks higher though, anyways you certainly don't need my advice :) I just love it!! These are the pieces that clearly belong in the home of a designer!

Love it! I'm on a huge Chinoiserie kick so it looks like heaven to me!

I'm also not a huge fan of red, but with your white walls I think it will work perfectly! It's so exciting to see everything coming together.

Can't wait to see it in person and we must make a trip to Lucketts. Now we just need to figure out a date!
