I just bought the lucite coffee table above from cb2 and can't wait for it to arrive!!! (The "Peakaboo Clear Coffee Table") I had originally planned on keeping the old toolbox -below- we had for a while... Then Christian fell off the sofa and whacked his head on the corner of it and I started to consider some softer options. (I'm usually not this much of a wimp, but since the dog bite accident I find myself being a bit more paranoid.) I was also looking to go for something a bit more modern juxtaposed against the traditional sofa, let's be honest.
I really love this one from Elle Decor but of course glass had me more more terrified than the wood. (haha I really am scarred right now.) But it really got me in the mood for clear. According to the internet, our all-knowing source, "Lucite is a material that has both properties of plastic and glass and mirrors the clarity of glass. It is heavier in “feel” as compared to traditional plastics and is of the highest quality." So I decided to go with lucite to get my clear fix.
I thought I'd share with you a bunch of eye-candy rooms with lucite coffee tables. Most are really similar to the one I ordered and I'm loving them. It might be something I tire of eventually, but I was really happy with the price & what it'll do for the space. (Below, House Beatiful)
The room below (decorpad) has a nice mix of traditional & modern...
Loving this room below (found at decorpad) & I think the lucite is just a perfect surprise in the middle of the room.
The room below (House Beautiful) has two lucite tables pushed close together and I love how the striped rug comes through the tables. (I'm definitely going to be looking for a special rug to layer over the natural woven one we'll have.)
And here's the same concept again (from Materialgirls) and how cute is the pup under there?? (okay, i don't know if he's real or fake!!!)
Here's the coffee table I ordered. Not loving the room but am still into the table:
Ok and this one might be glass but I love it so I'm including it anyway. I'm also crazy about what's going on above the sofa. So interesting. (decorpad)
Here's another one from Leslie Klotz's cottage (featured in House Beautiful)... SO fresh & fun:
LOVE the room below. It's so big & I love al the separated areas the designer created. (pic from inglenookdecor.blogspot.com) I also love views of lucite tables from above because it's almost like the objects on them are floating.
And I found the one below on my good friend Camila's blog (High-Heeled Foot in the Door) who I'm sure most of you know & love. Just two stacks of books on it- so pretty & simple!!
Soon I'll be laying across my sofa & smiling for the camera too. soon.. soon...
xoxo,
lauren
ps- my thoughts on trends: If you love something, get it whether it's "in" or "out"... don't ever get something just because it's "in" or "trendy," get it because you love it. (Then, who cares what happens when it goes "out" because YOU love it?!)

love lucite...great choice!!
It'll be just right! Love all of your inspiration images! And I cannot imagine any toddler hurting themselves on it! Nope.
Ok girl...I'd love your take on my chair. If you have a minute...let me know YOUR thoughts!

Now I am SUPER confrused, scooby!
I love this look! My parents have a similar coffee table in their living room...they like it because it doesn't take away from their colorful rug underneath. I like it because it's fun to play with the cat when she's under it!
love love love lucite!! I've been wanting one of my own forever now, I just wish the CB2 one was a tad bit taller. Of course all the other ones I find are way out of my price range..anyway I'll keep searching for the perfect one.
So excited to see yours!
Lauren - It will look great there! I can't wait to see it. :)
I had a big, beefy, intricately carved, perfectly tattered, shabby chic coffee table in my living room that I absolutely loved, until my grandson fell and hit his head on it!
Now I have something I never thought I would own, it's a gigantic upholstered leather storage ottoman! But it's soft, and there are no more mishaps with the grandkids!
Enjoy your lucite!
All the best,
Eileen
i'm so excited for you! i think lucite is a wonderful option, and it works so wonderfully (as all of your pictures show).
i have my lucite chair that i love! i want to get a small lucite nesting table too...that's the next purchase.
xox
I love this idea. I have no coffee table in our formal living for the same reasons. A two year old and now a 9 month old crawler have left me with no options but this would be perfect. Thanks
Love your lucite selection! I just scored some lucite nesting tables at a consignment store.

Gorgeous! I have been quietly lusting after The Paris Apartment's lucite furniture for quite some time now...
Love your sofa..fabulous! Love Lucite..it will be a classic. Can't wait to see it.
I am soooo jealous of your new table, Lauren! I've been drooling over the "Lucite Look" for a while now. I think it is fantastic!
I really want to get 4 lucite chairs for my breakfast nook, but they are a bit pricey. I really want them to hold up to 3 children (scratches, etc.). Let me know how your table holds up w/ a little one.
I definitely hear you on "childproof" furniture. We had a rod iron coffee table, but decided to get leather cubes when we had our 1st. :)

I think you made a great choice. I love lucite! Excited to see what it looks like in your space!-carlee
I'm with you on the trends, if you love it, you won't get tired of it. If you buy it only because it's a trend, then you will move on!
Just when I thought I got my lucite love under control this post has me going to CB2 faster than you can say "not in the budget". I have been drooling over the CB2 table forever, it will be mine one day! For me, a little bit of lucite will never be out!
It will be so great with your sofa (which I just can't get enough of).
I don't think lucite is out at all. In fact, I am with you. Drooling over it now more than I had before!
I would love one for our tiny apt. Maybe for Christmas??
I love the lucite too!!! I'm having my parents do the very same CB2 table in their bay house - love how it's light and airy and a little modern to go with the traditional. I want something lucite for my own house! :) Can't wait to see yours in your living room!
hello lover...
i am obsessed with lucite. obsessed.
If lucite is out, than I don't want to be in! I love the look!
That's definitely good advice. I used to hate lucite but totally love it now. We bought a lucite tv stand for our last apartment and I'm sad that we don't have a place for it in our current house. It's a really well made piece and weighs a ton(!). It's just stuck in a corner in my studio right now. I need to find a place for it . . .
I'm totally with you when it comes to trends. Sometimes I feel like a loser calling myself a decorator when my own house has nothing to do with what's current or "trendy". Because I think that's what people expect to see when they walk thru my door... visible proof that I'm hip to the latest and best of everything. I use what I like in my own home and I'm getting way too old to care about what's "expected". Besides, that I can make YOUR house look the way YOU want it to, Mrs Client, is all that really matters.
Lucite looks like a good call for YOUR space, Lauren! I love the room with the antler chandelier... it's reminiscent of your kooky cocoa bead fixture... I can see that whole look really coming together for you.
I totally agree! And I love your new table, I can't wait to see it in your space! There's something so great about glass coffee tables!! Up there with ghost chairs probably!

In or out, I'm always in the mood for lucite! I have the nesting table version(s) of that cb2 coffee table and I love them. Really functional and simple and they show off the great acid stained concrete floors in my basement. Great buy!
No matter if it is trendy or not . I have always been a lucite person! Love it
I agree. I will never tire of the classic Lucite table. I love them.

Lucite is growing on me. And I'm with you- I try not to worry about the trends. I just buy what I like.
And I also agree with you on the blog- my blog is a catalog of what I like. So I try not to worry about what has been posted before on other blogs!
Hi Lauren,
i am new to your blog and loving it. Where did you get your sofa? AND how does it hold up with kids?
Thx-Kris
Your last statement in your post is EXCELLENT, as it is so true.

Love it! Just beautiful! Love your blog. Just started mine and having fun doing it. Keep all the inspiration coming our way!
I have been considering this same table could you share how it holds up to daily abuse. Scratches etc. If scratched can they be removed easily etc....do you have to use a special cleaner? Thank you. Btw, love reading your blog. Fellow Virginian here and love the local info.
