As you might remember, we moved into our house about a year ago... One of the funny things about first moving into a house (especially in early Spring like us before the leaves are out) is that you don't necessarily know what kinds of plants & trees you have on your property. This past year it's been so great to watch the place bloom around us & to find out what everything is. One of our favorite "mystery trees" that we saw when we first moved in turned out to be a mulberry tree!

And we love to eat them!! (Things just taste better outside & especially when they're from your own yard, don't they?) It's so relaxing to head outside at the end of the day & pick mulberries. I love that we don't have to do anything at all to keep them alive (because my thumb is the blackest of blacks.)

...After we pick them we head to the backyard to the adirondack chairs to relax & enjoy the mulberries ... and forget about how messy our house is, the work that needs to be done, and the craziness of daily life etc.
They're not the cleanest of foods...

...But they sure make us happy...
Chores, work, messes and "things" will always be there...
Think of what you can do with the people you love to take a quick break from it all.
Savor all the little moments you can.

Oh, you lucky girl! There is nothing better than mulberrys with milk and sugar....we had several in our backyard growing up and some of my best childhood memories were with those bushes. :)

We have a mulberry tree too...although it has grown so tall that even my 6'2 son can't reach the bottom branch

ReplyDeleteokay there is one of these in my neighborhood and it puzzles me every time I take a walk (it's next to the road) because it looks like blackberries on a tree. DUH, would have never thought of mulberries!

(I know that sounds really blonde) We moved here just last fall and this spring then this tree is dropping berries by the buckets in our yard. I keep telling my kids to leave them alone cause they might make them sick:-) I think I'll have to go take another look at it. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I was JUST reminiscing about our little Queen Anne Victorian and just NOW remembered our Mulberry Tree we had there! I especially remember how the birds LOVED that tree, too. Lovely pictures of your family.....sweet memories, too.

ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to us. We didn't know what half the plants were when we moved in because it was winter so it was like a fun surprise when they all started to bloom. The best so far have been the hydrangeas - they're everywhere!
ReplyDeleteWe plant cherry tomatos for this very reason. My kids love to go into teh garden and pick and eat them righr off the bush. Their friends even ask if they will get to go to the garden when they are hear visiting.

I remember eating mulberries off the bush when I was a kid. My mom use to get so made cause we would do it during our Sunday School class and I would get my nice church clothes full of juice. Stains that are hard to get out! Your kids are blessed to have you as a mom! Keep your family priority and everything else with your business and personal life will thrive!

ReplyDeleteWow, guess I've never seen mulberries before. Much better than a vine with stickers. Just took my kids on a blackberry picking expedition (hence the vine with stickers reference) :). Love watching little ones devour berries :)
