I was browsing through Tom Scheerer's portfolio (again) and found this:
Who but Tom Scheerer could actually make a leg lamp look good?!!! I think I love it here. It's a beach house & it looks like a couple sharing a kiss on the beach. VERY vintage-quirky feeling and SO SO odd. It would totally make me laugh if it were in my beach house. And it's very reminiscent of this:
It's "frajee-lay"
And in case you don't know what I'm talking about you can check it out here. "You should see what it looks like from the street!"Just out of curiosity, would anyone let this enter their home? What about the kissing couple?
xoxo,
lauren
LOL I got the joke! I never forgot "Frageelee". Thats actually how I say it to this day :P I'll never forget wanting to have that pink bunny suit SO bad..
ReplyDeleteAnyway I adore that room. The lamp is odd, but in a cool way. I likey.
The "couple" lamp is perfect AND quirky...LOVE IT! I also agree with Shella, pronouncing "fragile" frageelee...my son's girlfriend gave my husband a grill lighter for Christmas, shaped like that infamous rifle, and added on the gift card, "You'll shoot your eye out!"
ReplyDeleteThat's one of my all time favorite movies! I'm not sure about leg lamps..it fits perfectly in that room, but I'm not quite sure I could get it to fit in any room in my house.
ReplyDeleteI like lamp in the first pic ok, its kinda weird but in a fun kind of way. The other lamp though, could come in my house but would go right back out the door :)
ReplyDeleteLove the first lamp..too cute! I would display it in my beach shack...if I had one.
ReplyDeletejust found your blog - and i love it!
ReplyDeletemy mom has a leg lamp and she puts it in the window every christmas! i would do the same if i day it. i get a kick out of it every time.
This movie is an absolute favorite of mine. Was introduced to it the first Christmas I was dating my husband, on a trip back to visit his family. Always makes me laugh...and no, the leg lamp would not make it into my house. The kissing couple...maybe, in the right setting! Janell
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere over the holidays that when asked what their favorite Christmas movie was, older people always said "It's a Wonderful Life" while people of the younger generation hands down all said "A Christmas Story!"
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a classic! And I love that leg lamp. Though I would KILL my husband if he ever bought something like it. {like my husband would ever even think about buying a lamp of any sort! He knows that's my territory.}
Hope you're getting through the sleepless nights with your little guy. I'm barely able to drag myself out of bed in the mornings! Evie is still in the more-awake-at-night phase (hence the 1:00 am blog comments!).
hugs,
jenny
I would take the couple lamp in an instant. There is a craftsman in my neighborhood that goes all out for Christmas. Leg lamp in the window and all!
ReplyDeleteUh, no.... sorry, but I don't think I would have that leg lamp in any home of mine! hehe Not really my style! :) But, fun post! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! I love the couples lamp in that room (love that room by the way!!). Could cope with the couples lamp in our house, but sorry - the leg lamp is just not for me...:) Have a lovely day with your little ones. - Tx
ReplyDeleteRalphie: Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that movie.
My husband really wants one of the leg lamps for our Christmas decorations!! He's funny like that! :)
ReplyDeleteI think I watched this movie at least 20 times this year. It's my all time fave! I would TOTALLY let this lamp enter my home just cuz I love the movie that much haha.
ReplyDeleteps. i just noticed you are based in northern, va! my hubby and i own a house there and we were born and raised there, but now live in san diego. (his whole entire family still lives in northern, va (mclean area) and my family in richmond, va). i wish i knew you back when i lived there, especially since my hubby and his family are custom home builders and were always working with interior designers. you would have been perfect for the clients they were working with. give VA a big hug for me. I miss it there!!
:)grace
Lauren..I loves these..so quirky and soooooo Moulin Rouge : )
ReplyDeleteExcellent find!!! Agree about it's quirkiness ,but very cute neverthless!!

Great post! I love your light-hearted connection to the "FraGeelay" - a classic movie moment, for sure!
ReplyDeleteThat wooden leg lamp is a classic, too. I would put it in my house in a heartbeat. It's the sort of piece that offers a wonderfully unexpected element.
Lauren, it just goes to show that in the right hands, anything can be beautiful. To me, in this space, the lamp screams we are fun people without being too over the top. Stil laughing about the frajeelay...memories.
ReplyDeleteLauren,
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny lamp! I think she stands beautiful in that beach house! And it depends on the interior style of a home if she can be integrated but I think a little humour by using a lamp as that is admitted!
xx

Too funny! This last Christmas my husband tried to convince me how funny the leg lamp would be, and he said he would laugh (in a good way) everytime he drove by our house if we put it in the front window. He added that everyone would get the joke and it would be funny. I'm still not convinced. Maybe in a basement down the road, maybe. But not in my front window.
ReplyDeleteThe kissing couple lamp, absolutely, without a doubt! That entire vignette is so charming and beautiful. But I do admit, I am a huge fan of the movie. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWe have a bit of an oddball lamp in our house as well. Probably one most would pass up, but I found it irresistible. It's an opaque white lamp in the shape of a nude-y little guy. Cartoonish, really. Anyway, the round bald head is covered with a blue, pleated acrylic shade...fits like a hat. The on/off switch is strategically placed on the nude little body, just below the belly button. Ahem, use your imagination. :o) Quirky, but I love it.
We moved this year to, well, what I thought was an upscale neighborhood. There is one stop sign which catches all traffic in and out, and when the holiday decorations came out, so did THE leg lamp into the front window of a house right at that intersection. It's hideous but has to put a smile on the face of every homeowner in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteBack to your topic, though, I do like the lamp! A conversation piece, if nothing else :)
hilarious - I love it!
ReplyDeleteTOO funny. I'm not crazy about it but it works there. As far as the other lamp, no way except perhaps to get a laugh (but I'd be worried no one would get it and think I actually LIKED the lamp!)
ReplyDeleteI love the first lamp! I think it's so pretty and sweet that they look like they're kissing.
ReplyDeleteI want one.
the kissing couple is cute.... the leg lamp.... worse than horrible... :)
ReplyDeleteLove this movie. It is a favorite with our family too. Borders Books was selling mini versions of the infamous leg lamp this year. I bought my husband one for fun, but it's not allowed "live" in our house!
ReplyDeleteLove it. They should paint on some flip flops. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! A couple years ago I lived down the street (in a really nice neighborhood) from someone who had the last one pictured front and center in their living room window. Classy.
ReplyDeleteLove the kissing couple lamp. Where I would put it is a mystery though!
ReplyDeleteWe actually have the Italian leg lamp. We got it as a gift one Christmas & we have put it out every Christmas since. It's kitchy!
ReplyDeleteAs cute as the kissing couple lamp is...it wouldn't work in my house.
My husband favorite movie. It does get old being on 24/7 though.
ReplyDeleteA coworker has the Christmas leg lamp in his office. Fishnets, fringe and all, only it's a mini version.
ReplyDeleteAnd every time I go in there I think "Is that really appropriate for work?" He's a little odd anyway!
My in-laws found a leg lamp at a garage sale and I am very PROUD to say that they DIDN'T give it to us. They gave it to my brother-in-law. Thank you lord.
ReplyDeleteWhat a small world! My hubby went to St. Stephens Episcopal in Alexandria, and they may have played your school in sports. Too funny. The family business is Sorensen Homes. His grandfather started it over 60 years ago after graduating from UVA in architecture. That's where his whole fam went. So fun to be able to "Virginia talk" with you!!!! We love it there so much. Hope you're enjoying the newborn stages again! I'm sure it won't be long till I'm ready for #2. Motherhood is the best! xoxo g
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering for years if anyone could make our motorcycle lamp (the one my husband came home with one day out of the blue)look good. Now I know who to call!
ReplyDeleteOMG that lamp is so something you would like, so fun! Love it!
ReplyDeletecute post!! Rite Aid had the Christmas Story lamps for Christmas this year (in 2 different sizes) and my boyfriend was like, "NO, it's not the same size [as the movie] LOL"!
ReplyDeleteI love the movie - not sure about the lamp. Maybe in my husbands man cave in the basement. All the best, Lori
ReplyDeleteThere are so many places for that lamp in my house! Love it!
ReplyDeleteANd I DO understand why the wife "accidentally" ran her vacuum so hard into the leg lamp table that it fell over.
Love that movie and my husband loves that lamp!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I LOVE your house and your style. If styles were like men and women, and I was the opposite gender of your style.. I would soooo propose to it! I am in LOVE! *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI know what I'm doing for the next hour of my night... looking through your entire blog!
I found your blog a few months ago. I stop by often, but had to comment!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has this lamp. Smaller in size, but not mini by any means. AND...it proudly lives, and will stay, in his old room (now guest room) in his grandmas upscale southern california home. AND it doesn't look half bad! I'll take a picture of it next time i'm over, and post it to my blog :)
Just recently found your blog and love it. I have a friend that works for Tom Scheerer and sent her your post. Thought it was so funny! Happy New Year!

ReplyDeletelove that movie. I'm with you, I like it in a quirky way.
ReplyDeleteohhhhh....what color do you think that room might be? i want it for my living room!
ReplyDelete.it fits perfectly in that room, but I'm not quite sure I could get it to fit in any room in my house.
ReplyDeleteWork from home India
Just stumbled across your blog. I had to comment! My fiance actually purchased this exact lamp, the one from the christmas story, for me for Christmas. There is a quaint little house in our hometown that puts one in their front picture window every Christmas season. Every time we pass that house I comment on the infamous leg lamp and it's glow from the street. Little did I know that the comments would lead him to purchase one for me. I have to admit that I really do think it has a very unique, fun vibe. Although It will only ever see the light of day around Christmas time. The rest of the year it will have to stay put in the box in the back of the closet! :)
