Our Dining Room: All "Done!"

(Above, some nuts in a vintage jello mold.) Well, since Jonie showed the evolution of our dining room in her recent post, I thought I would share our finally "done" dining room with you! As you might remember, here's what it looked like when we first moved in:


And here it is now:
I finally made & hung my last set of frayed linen curtains & ordered Sears' roman shades in 'natural' for all of the windows:
I went with a totally white scheme with a few hits of green. I wanted it to be insanely neutral so that I can do whatever I like on the table & have fun with colors:
Right now I have my painted white thrift store bust sitting on a stack of magazines. We use the dining table a lot as a place to just hang out: read, use the computer, etc..
The chairs are from Ballard Designs & of course they're machine washable slipcpvers. (No other type of whit would last in this house!) The thing I love most about them is that I got the ones on casters & they are So convenient!!! They're great for pulling out one-handed when you've got something in the other hand and for pulling into the living room for extra seating. I didn't even know how much we'd love them.



And notice the little gray goat skin on the left chair... (above & below) Dave tried to surprise me for our anniversary with this "rug." He ordered it off of ebay & was thinking it would fit under our lucite coffee table before we had anything under there. Not knowing, this I came home with the cowhide one day and he told me that he'd ordered me a rug for an amazing deal (like $40 I think?) & could I return mine. (I couldn't.) He said his was a goat. I asked if it was a really big goat?? He said he guessed so. Anyway, I felt really terrible until the "goat" arrived & it was about the size of our dog. So now it just gets moved around the house like the rest of our stuff. And below, I'm finally 100% satisfied & loving my cocoa bead chandelier. It really nheeded the heft of the skirted parsons chairs underneath I think:

    It came together so beautifully Lauren. And photographs so well! I love that the space is as functional as it is pretty. But perhaps the best part is that little goat skin, the story that goes along with it is priceless. :0)

    Oh, and I do so love the gilded + green chair. It's just that bit of jewelry that makes a great room really sparkle.

    Hi Lauren, your rooms looks great - I love the white, so you can change up accessories. First time I looked at this post I just saw the pictures then came back later to read. Too funny about the goat. That's a shame. Looks nice though. haha. I love that wacky light fixture, very chic, and the Ballard chairs and the table and the wall thingie- it is all so well put-together. I seriously wish you lived closer. Half my house sits undone. Just so little time after a hard week at work but really hope to get at least a room painted over CHristmas!

    Awesome job!! It looks fabulous, everything pulled together and gave you a very hip chic functional beautiful space.
    The goat story, priceless. :) I was on a hide kick last year, wound up with several nice ones that are sprinkled around the house. I have a a few small ones that move around too. We know as creative as you are, you will keep coming up unique ways to display yours.

    I love how you balanced the window with your artwork. The window treatments really give your dining room a finished look.
    Isn't Ballard great? Their designs have really improved recently. Getting the chairs with castors was a brilliant idea.

    Love the whole room! You have pulled together a room that looks beautiful and will function for you and your family. The fact that you just acknowledge that the dining room is multi functional is so good - I just complain about how everyone piles their books and junk on my pretty table, when really I should get over it and just make it a work/gathering spot! Love the story of the goat rug - what a sweet husband. You could also use it on top of a table as a surface for a grouping of treasures!

    Love how this room turned out! Just beautiful....
    and LOL about the funny, yet sweet story about the goat rug!
    Maybe it would look good grouped under the moss ball arrangement on the bias?
    We have a small calf rug in our son's room, and it's one of those funny sizes too. It has moved from the dresser to the floor....now it's just in front of a small chair in his room.
    Love the painting in this room also, as well as the all white windows/white walls, great green chair...and as always I adore slips and black furniture.
