I made curtains!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I do a lot myself but that I'm not really that into doing it.  I'm after results and don't savor the process.  I'm not a perfectionist and I get sloppy when I do projects.  Watching Dave stencil our living room wall when I was pregnant was torture.   However, I do like an-hour-or-less-long projects and I got one in this weekend:  cafe curtains for our laundry room.

They were so quick & easy and I luckily had 2 yards of fabric lying around that I'd purchased on a whim a little bit back when Seleta did a post on Lewis & Sheron.  (I'd used the fabric for the recent photo shoot at our house as a throw blanket and figured I could use it later.)  It ended up being perfect for the windows!!  ( I love it when stuff like that happens!)  I wanted a natural vintage-grandma feeling...  a teensy bit kitschy and almost as if they'd always been there.  I attempt potting in there and also keep my gardening tools in there so the fern fabric from Lewis & Sheron was perfect.

When I finish up the rest of the laundry room I'll post "afters" but here's a quick "before" to give you an idea of the state it's been in...

{We haven't been able to really walk in there...}

{before we moved in}

Wish me luck!!

xoxo, Lauren

  2. you are exactly like me when it comes to projects, I'm sloppy and careless and just not good at it!! I watch my mom and am just in awe - I think it comes down to patience, which clearly I don't have too much of!

    I love the look you're going for, it's very sweet and home-y

    I'm a new follower and love your blog. I just started a blog too and posted some before and after shots of vintage chairs - love to get your feedback.

  5. Lauren- Adorable curtains! Do cafe curtains cover the entire window? Or just half?

    What a great back yard view you have for laundry and potting!

  6. I've seen that fabric and love it. Kudos to you for sewing them up! I love the peak into your laundry room -- people tend to think that we designers don't have rooms you can hardly walk in --we do, we're normal. Ok, maybe I'm not normal (most of my can't walk in areas are filled with fabric remnants and "some-day" projects! :)

  7. I feel the same way on the projects...love the results more than the 'doing'. Your curtains look great and the best part is that it just was 'there' and easy - love that.
    I feel you pain on the laundry room - I am going out to tackle my garage in a few minutes. Fun Fun. I posted on clutter today (after a week long clean out for a client) if you are interested! xo

  11. Believe you me...I am in the same boat! If it is too labor intensive or calls for exact measurements, then count me out...I like immediate results!

  15. Like you, I have little patience when digging in to DIYs. After working in a drapery workroom for a few months (which was invaluable as a designer) I have the hang of quickie valances and lined drapes so I actually enjoy it but painting is right out.

  17. I'm with you, Lauren, hate the process, esp. sewing, but like the results. Your curtains look lovely. And you would look lovely in every one of the Gorsuch outfits. Hope you find one of them under your Christmas tree!

  18. I am so happy to hear that you are the same way, but I do like the results much more than the process! Can't wait to see the results, we are moving on to the laundry soon too!

  20. I don't even have a sewing machine or the confidence to try a sewing project. I will live vicariously through you! And my laundry room currently is covered with the husband's tools and my own materials for furniture makeovers - it's not pretty!

  22. Hey, lauren, I'm not a great seamstress either, although I keep trying. Cute curtains! Love that fabric.

    And how exciting to see your spread in BHG! I was smiling from ear to ear, thinking I know her. Your house looks great as I knew it would. Gorgeous & such details you've put in there.
